According to archaeological investigation, a total of 198 sections of city walls have been discovered on the island, with a length of approximately 6 kilometers. These city walls, all made of rammed earth and paving stone structures, are composed of outer-city walls, inner-city walls, straight-line city walls, and abutments. The outer-city wall measures 1350 meters in length and has long been submerged under water. The inner-city wall is located at the top of Huanghua Island and forms a nearly enclosed circle with an area of approximately 570,000 square meters. There are also two sections of straight-line city walls in the north and the south that connect to the inner-city walls from above and to the abutments from below. They have not only strengthened the connection between the inner and outer cities as well as between the city site and the Yangtze River, but also expanded defensive capabilities in depth for the city site. It has been preliminarily confirmed that the section from Taojiazui in the southwest to Liujiahe is a key defense point for this city site. Artifacts from Song Dynasty such as celadon pieces, white porcelain pieces and black-glazed ceramics have been unearthed at this site.
